What is up with L&O:SVU's schedule this year?

I was wondering if anyone knows why there have been large gaps in the airing of new episodes? Are they having scheduling problems, or issues with filming, or are the writers being fussy? It feels like this season has been taking forever. Every time I turn around, I'm hearing the words "no new ep this Wednesday." :(
